Samantha Wehbi embodies the values and intent reflected in the Innovative Teaching Award. Her teaching practice is infused with innovative approaches that favour student engagement, the development of critical thinking skills, and a sense of community, all of which are at the heart of Ryerson’s academic plan priorities. Having taught courses at all levels from undergraduate to postgraduate studies, Dr. Wehbi has introduced innovative approaches in classroom teaching, assessment methods and curriculum development. Her classroom teaching methods have promoted student engagement with the material as she has adopted a teaching style that moves away from lecturing to building a community of invested learners. It is equally important to highlight Dr. Wehbi’s contributions to the scholarship of teaching and learning. Her classroom experiences and teaching innovations have been the subject of several presentations and peer-reviewed publications seeking to share learnings with other educators.
